The essential years of a musician’s career are usually the first few. This crucial period usually provides the groundwork for an artist’s core creative habits and traits. Bear in mind that every musician’s journey is unique and therefore, shouldn’t be compared. Learning happens at one’s own pace.

We’ve all heard the saying ‘Practice makes Perfect,’ but how many of us actually dedicate our time towards perfecting a talent without any distractions? Since mastering a musical instrument requires a higher percentage of practical knowledge than theoretical knowledge, how you manage your time with your instrument determines how far you go with your musical goals. Practice is key, after all there’s no gain without pain, right?

When learning, it’s always a good idea to utilize a metronome as it gives a sense of “timing,” which is an important aspect to master any instrument. It also aids in the development of rhythm. If you’re using a metronome, start with the slower tempos and gradually move up to the faster ones. This gives a sensation of “Control” over your music. Spend your time constructively by practicing different scales. Knowledge of scales are essential when artists want to improvise and learn relations between chord progressions.

For guitar learners, familiarize yourself with the Fretboard. Most importantly, maintain an open mind! Start learning as much as you can about new materials. Experiment with different music, genres, and styles, even if it makes you feel apprehensive at first. This is how “Versatility” gets built! Finally, take inspiration, what’s better than a role model who motivates you and drives you to be the best version of yourself ?
