Overview of the Piano/Keyboard Syllabus

The Piano/Keyboard Classes at The First Chord Music & Art School offer students a comprehensive approach to mastering this versatile instrument. The curriculum begins with the fundamentals, introducing students to the piano/keyboard’s structure, including keys, scales, and chords, as well as proper finger positioning and posture.

Students will learn to play a variety of musical styles, from classical and jazz to pop and contemporary, while understanding essential music theory concepts such as harmony, rhythm, and melody. Lessons include sight-reading and ear training exercises that enhance a student’s ability to recognize notes, chords, and scales by ear, as well as hands-on practice to improve coordination between both hands.

Improvisation techniques are integrated into the syllabus, allowing students to explore their creativity and develop their own musical ideas. Accompaniment skills are also emphasized, enabling students to play with other musicians or vocalists in ensembles. Advanced students will learn to compose original pieces, blending traditional and modern musical elements. The course culminates with performance practice, building confidence and stage presence, while fostering a deep appreciation for the piano/keyboard’s role in solo and ensemble settings across various musical genres.
